“We are ready to cooperate with all friends that believe in the necessity of forming a united front against the Zionist enemy and against divisive attempts,” Zarif said in a meeting with Rashid al-Ghannushi, leader of Tunisia's main Islamic party, in Tunis on Tuesday.
He further expressed concerns over extremism and sectarianism, saying the threats can be the root causes of serious problems facing the Muslim world.
Ghannushi, for his part, pointed to the prohibition of bloodshed and the emphasis on peaceful coexistence based on the principles of Islam and called on Muslims to resolve their differences through dialogue.
In a Monday meeting with Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid, Zarif had said that all countries in the Middle East are facing the danger of terrorism, and urged the Muslim world to unite against this common threat.
Cooperation among Muslim countries should focus on preventing sectarianism, extremism, and violence, Zarif said, emphasizing that “extremism and terrorism are common threats to the entire region.”
The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Tunisia on Monday as the first destination of a new round of his international tours after the conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and major world powers.
Following the Vienna nuclear talks on July 14, Zarif had visited several countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria in the Middle East as well as India, Pakistan, and Russia.
