The eastern artery to the north of Sidon roundabout has been opened to a now smoothly running traffic, NNA field reporters confirmed.

A small number of pro-Assir supporters had closed traffic to the eastern track leading to main Sidon roundabout after detention of fugitive salafist sheikh shmad al-Assir.

They were protesting against police arrest of the Salafist cleric at Beirut airport amid stringent army and police security measures.

It is reported that the driver of the white Mercedes car transporting the runaway fugitive Ahmad Al-Assir, to Beirut International Airport has been arrested.

Al-Assir sported a forged passport under the alias Ramy Abdul-Rahman Taleb; He intended to travel in the company of another man carrying a passport under the alias Khaled Saidani, NNA reporters concluded.
