The European Union said Tuesday it would extend its suspension of sanctions against Iran for six months amid the newly reached nuclear agreement with the Islamic Republic, IRNA reports.

According to Sputnik news agency, the suspension would allow the European Union to make the necessary arrangements and preparations for the implementation of the new deal, according to a statement by Council of the EU.

Iran and the P5+1 group (China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Russia and the United States) came to a historic agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program after years of negotiations.

The new agreement will limit Iranian nuclear activities in exchange for a gradual lifting of economic sanctions imposed on the country by the UN Security Council, According to Sputnik.
