Hammond made the remarks during a press conference on Monday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, following a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi.
The British secretary confirmed that there will be no British “boots on the ground,” adding that, in order to defeat the militants, the Iraqi government and its security forces as well as the Iraqi people “will have to take the lead on the ground.”
In addition, Hammond expressed support for the Iraqi government’s campaign against groups, pledging that Iraq would “not stand alone” against the terrorists.
