"Both leaders agreed that, given the threat posed by Ebola, at this crucial juncture members of the international community must redouble their resolve and commitment," the White House said in a statement.
The president also "stressed the need for all UN member states support the UN appeal and to provide the personnel, equipment and supplies required to stop the epidemic at its source," it added.
Obama also spoke to French President Francois Hollande and discussed the need for treatment facilities in West Africa and preventing the spread of Ebola to other regions.
The White House said that Obama also met with senior officials on Monday afternoon to ensure the US medical system is ready to deal with the deadly virus.
Obama asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to accelerate its probe into the apparent “breach of infection control procedures” at a Texas hospital, where an Ebola patient died last week before infecting a health worker.
