Varzaneh city is located 105 km southeast of Isfahan. It is linked by railroads to Varzaneh farmlands in the south, Gavkhouni Wetland in the east and Ashkehran Village in the west.

The city has a population of 11,549. Zayandehroud River passes through the northern part of the city.
Imam Ja’far Sadeq (PBUH) Township, established in 1980, is in the northern part of the city.
Due to its proximity to desert, Varzaneh has warm weather, particularly during August and September. The average precipitation rate stands at 80 millimeters.
Mashallah Shafiei, a member of Varzaneh City Council, said the city’s tourism potentials can help eradicate poverty.
“Fortunately, we have turned this region into a tourism hub in the east of Isfahan in light of its sandhills and desert region. This was materialized through the private sector’s investment,” he said.
“We should create jobs for Varzaneh’s people by boosting tourism industry.”
Shafiei added that attractions such as Jame’ Mosque, Shah Abbasi Caravansarai, Haft Cheshmeh Roud, and the last bridge of Zayandehroud River have turned Varzaneh into Isfahan’s tourism hub.
A private investor has launched a tourist site in Varzaneh. The first phase of the site will be inaugurated by the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Masoud Soltanifar.
The inauguration of the site will create job opportunities for local people. Also, the handicraft market will thrive due to the presence of tourists.
In related news, Mehrdad Havaie, the head of the city’s tourism project, said, “We employed 50-60 local laborers for establishing the tourist site.”
The project, which is the biggest desert tourism plan, includes two restaurants with a capacity of 840 people, an open-air concert hall with a seating capacity of 1,800,15 suites with a capacity of 120, an auto tune-up center, gas station, observatory, camel-riding site, motorcycle routes, camping, shooting complex, hydrotherapy complex and a pomegranate garden.
Khara Desert, also known as Varzaneh Desert, is spread over 17,000 hectares. It has different kinds of dunes shaped by wind, including longitudinal dunes, arc dunes and sandy pyramids.

The landscape of its eastern hills is very beautiful and the dunes make a suitable site for camping.
