Iran, Russia foreign ministers meet in Dushanbe

The foreign ministers of Iran and Russia met to discuss bilateral and regional issues as well as the process of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear energy program.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, on the sidelines of the fourteenth summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The two sides discussed the existing negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia, China, the United States, France and Britain – plus Germany over the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program.

They also talked about the implementation of agreements, expert-level talks and the upcoming prospect of the nuclear negotiations.

Zarif and Lavrov also examined bilateral and regional issues, including the crisis in Ukraine, terrorism in Iraq and the political situation in Afghanistan.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, met on the sidelines of the SCO summit.

The two presidents emphasized the necessity of promoting bilateral relations in all fields.
