Police chief of Diyala province Major General Jamil al-Shammari in an interview with Al Sumaria News announced, after receiving the exact details of militants’ hideout in the Hamrin region (located 50 kilometers northeast of Baquba), Iraqi Special Police Units in an anti-terrorist operation killed Musab al-Sanjari, military commander of the ISIL terrorist group in the region.
A top aide of Sanjari was killed in the operation too. The two slain terrorists were involved in several terrorist attacks, Shammari added.
Iraq has been fighting ISIL Takfiri terrorists since they took control of Mosul on June 10. The takeover was followed by the fall of the city of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad. The control of Tikrit was later retaken by the Iraqi army.
The ISIL terrorists have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions of civilians and Iraqi security forces.
