“A radar system special to detecting stealth aircraft, which has been developed by young and specialist [Iranian] forces despite conditions caused by [US-engineered] sanctions, will be used to counter stealth aircraft,” Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Saturday.
The commander added that the radar system will be unveiled on September 1, which marks the establishment anniversary of the defense base.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
Last December, Iran unveiled an indigenously designed and manufactured radar system named Arash.
The radar system has a very long range and complements Iran’s radar capability in VHF, UHF and HF frequency bands. It also boosts the country’s integrated defense system in electronic wars.
In November 2013, the Iranian Navy also unveiled a phased array radar system, dubbed the Asr (Era), which is capable of detecting targets with a surface area of around four square meters at distances as far as 110 miles. It can also spot cruise missiles.
The Islamic Republic has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
