Yasser Abed Rabbo, an adviser to acting PA chief Mahmoud Abbas, said on Sunday that PA security forces may stop helping Israeli forces to thwart attacks.
“The Israelis are undermining all agreements and keeping only the security coordination to the maximum,” Abed Rabbo said.
Under the agreements between the PA and Israel, the PA forces help Israeli army to thwart attacks emanating from the West Bank.
“If they pursue the same policy through continuous settlement activity, and lately through destroying the peace process, they are paving the way for the destruction of what remains of our relationship - the security coordination,” he added.
Abed Rabbo said that it was not possible to cooperate with the Israeli army while it continues to confiscate Palestinian lands.
“They are extending one hand to shake with us and with the other they are stabbing us,” he added.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said if the PA put an end to the security coordination, “it will be putting the final nail in the coffin of the peace process.”
More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank including East al-Quds in 1967.
The Tel Aviv regime’s settlement activities remain the main obstacle to the peace in the region. The regime defies international call to stop building settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.
