According to Syrian security sources, the militants fired several mortar shells on the neighborhoods of al-Salibeh, the area surrounding Hanano Square and the Teachers’ Residence in the northwestern city of Idlib, killing three children, the official SANA news agency reported on Monday.
The report added that four mortar shells landed on an area near al-Abbasiyeen Square in the capital, Damascus, leaving a civilian dead.
Another civilian was also killed when five mortar shells fired by the foreign-sponsored militants hit the town of Jaramana in Damascus countryside.
A number of civilians were wounded in the assaults.
Cities and towns across Syria have frequently come under mortar and rocket fire by the militants since the Syria crisis erupted over three years ago.
On April 25, nearly 20 people were injured in a mortar attack targeting an area near Damascus while on April 27, the militants fired mortar shells at several areas, including a headquarters used by government forces in the city of Aleppo, killing 21 people.
On the same day, Syria’s state television announced “terrorist groups have blown up several buildings... including the Chamber of Industry.”
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Over 150,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil.
