A pair of mortar shells fired by foreign-backed militants in Syria has hit near the parliament building in central Damascus, killing five people and injuring several others.
SANA official news agency says the mortars struck some 320 feet (100 meters) from the parliament in the Salihiya area of the Syrian capital on Monday morning.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but militant groups often fire mortar shells into Damascus.
Mortar shells cannot be precisely targeted and often kill civilians.
Several schools and residential areas have been targeted in the previous attacks which have left many people, including children, dead.
Syria sank into war in March 2011 when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.
The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.
