Syrian troops continue with their mopping-up operations in the strategic port city of Latakia, forcing armed insurgents on the outskirts of the major city to flee to neighboring Turkey.
Furthermore, according to the Al-Alam correspondent, following the Syrian liberation of the towns of Flita and Ras al-Maara on the outskirts of Damascus, army forces continue to conduct operations in the general area to purge the entire region of armed militants.
Meanwhile, scores of foreign-backed militants were killed and many wounded when Syrian troops targeted their hideouts in the region. Hundreds of the insurgents also fled to the neighboring Lebanon.
According to the report, Syrian army’s bomb disposal units defused explosives planted along the roads and near residential buildings.
Syrian forces also foiled a militant attack on an army post in Quneitra in southwest of the country, destroying three machine guns mounted on pick-up trucks.
