Army aircraft launched six operations on the Al-Aqaba region near the town of Yarboud on Friday, according to the so-called Syria Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on reports from spies within militant groups on the ground.
The Yabroud operation by Syrian ground forces is aimed at cutting a key supply line linked to the town of Arsal in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, used by terrorist groups to smuggle arms and forces.
The town is the last major area held by militants in the mountainous Qalamoun region along the border with neighboring Lebanon. It has been under the control of foreign-sponsored armed groups since 2011.
Army operations continued mainly in Aleppo, Hama and Daraa as well, according to the official SANA news agency.
And in the northeast, clashes erupted between army forces and the extremist militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant after midnight near Raqqa.
More than 140,000 people have been killed in Syria since the start of the foreign-charged insurgency which started in 2011.
