Following a two-day meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Ashton said on Wednesday that a new round of talks over Tehran's nuclear program will be held on November 7 and 8.
Zarif also said the talks had been "extensive and fruitful".
Ashton underlined that she was reading from a joint statement agreed with Zarif and herself as chair of the international negotiating team.
The two met in Geneva after three rounds of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain - plus Germany.
The first round of talks was held on Tuesday morning, attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.
During the closed-door meeting in the morning, Zarif presented Iran’s proposal titled "Closing an Unnecessary Crisis, and Opening a New Horizon" to Ashton and the representatives of the six countries.
The details of the proposal will remain confidential for the time being.
