The world's chemical weapons watchdog has received details on the Syrian chemical weapons program, which it has been tasked with dismantling, it said Friday.

"The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has received an initial disclosure from the Syrian government of its chemical weapons program," the Hague-based organization said in a statement.

The information provided by the government of President Bashar al-Assad will now be reviewed by experts at the chemical weapons watchdog, the spokesman said.

A meeting of the OPCW's 41 committee members to decide on the next steps in their Syria investigation had been scheduled for Sunday, but has been postponed indefinitely without explanation.
