"The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has received an initial disclosure from the Syrian government of its chemical weapons program," the Hague-based organization said in a statement.
The information provided by the government of President Bashar al-Assad will now be reviewed by experts at the chemical weapons watchdog, the spokesman said.
A meeting of the OPCW's 41 committee members to decide on the next steps in their Syria investigation had been scheduled for Sunday, but has been postponed indefinitely without explanation.
