Damascus has given a green light to Moscow’s proposal to put its chemical arsenal under international control.
Walid Muallem, the Syrian Foreign Minister, has agreed to put the Syria's chemical weapons under international supervision.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on Syria to do so as a sign of commitment to international regulations.
The call was also made for easing tensions caused by Washington on refusing to put off its plans to bomb Syria.
Syrian Foreign Minister said the US is using the issue of chemical weapons as a pretext to launch a war against his country.
The United States accused Syria of applying chemical weapons against civilians, a claim refuted by Damascus.
Washington has failed to convince international community on its claims against Damascus yet it is lobbying hard to gather international support for attacking Syria.
