Militants in Syria’s Homs have attacked a school used by displaced civilians as shelter, leaving at least three people dead and several injured.

According to SANA official news agency militants targeted the Maysaloun School in Homs’s al-Dablan neighborhood with mortar shells.

Sources available to SANA said “three citizens were martyred and others were injured who were taken to hospitals in Homs city”.

There were also reports of great material damage to the school building.

Earlier on the day, two workers at the Radio and TV Center in Homs were also injured due to another mortar shell fired by terrorists on the center located in Karm al-Shami neighborhood.

Another mortar shell fell on the Vegetables Market in al-Khder neighborhood, causing the injury of a citizen and big damage in the cars and the residential buildings.

A residential building near Mar Ephram Church in al-Adawieh neighborhood was also targeted the same day.

Foreign-backed militants have increased their attacks on civilian targets to put the Syrian army soldiers under pressure and prevent their advancement.

Syrian soldiers have been advancing apace in Homs, looking to break a lengthy stalemate in the city, which has been the scene of fierce fighting over the past year.

The two sides have been trading artillery fire in Homs for months, but the army started an all-out operation on May 30th to purge the city from foreign-backed militants.

The Syrian crisis started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government boosts its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent about warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
