Our correspondent in Syria said on Wednesday that the government troops inflicted heavy losses on foreign-backed militants after clearing several areas in Barzeh from terrorist groups.
The leaders of two terrorist groups, Fadi Sallo and Mohammad Islam al-Hammwi, have been killed during the operation.
A Syrian army commander supervising the operation told al-Alam that the government forces have dismantled six underground tunnels used by the terrorists in Barzeh.
In the city of Douma, about 10 km northeast of Damascus, the army killed several terrorists and destroyed their weapons and ammunition.
The army has recently conducted successful clean-up operations across the country, inflicting heavy losses on Takfiri extremists.
The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.
The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.
As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.
Washington has remained indifferent about warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
