Saudi Salafist cleric Sheikh Muhammad al-Arifi claims that Iran is going to assassinate Hezbollah’s chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah because his effective role is over, CNN Arabic and other Arabic websites report.
“Nasrallah’s role is over and Iran is going to assassinate him,” al-Arifi twitted on Tuesday.
“His role in Arab countries has come to an end, so it is expected that Iran would assassinate him to bury his secrets with him,” the extremist Saudi cleric wrote.
Al-Arifi is famous for his controversial and mostly insulting rhetoric against Shiite scholars.
He even made up offensive stories about Islam’s great Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which caused widespread outrage among both Sunnis and Shiites around the Islamic world.
The Saudi cleric’s remarks came as, in a speech delivered on Sunday, Nasrallah pledged victory for the Syrian people against a massive bloody insurgency which has gripped the country for more than two years, with Saudi Arabia being one of its biggest supporters.
According to a recent report, Saudi Arabia is the second biggest military supporter of the militants in Syria who are fighting to topple the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
