Iran Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani has criticized the Turkish foreign minister’s remarks about Tehran, saying supporting extremists only fuels tension in the region and intensifies the Syria crisis.
Larijani said on Sunday that Ahmet Davutoglu’s accusations against Iran were “untrue and wrong.”
“From the beginning, the Islamic Republic believed that the Syria issue must be resolved through political negotiations. Sending arms and helping extremists is merely a form of warmongering in the region that fuels the crisis,” Larijani added.
Majlis Speaker said after causing a great deal of financial and human cost, today the world has reached the same conclusion, adding that those who did not analyze the situation correctly should now change their course instead of accusing others.
The crisis in Syria began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
On May 18, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said militants from 29 countries are fighting against the Syrian government in different parts of the country.
