Iranian Defense Minister says France’s call for “decisive sanctions” against Iran over its nuclear energy program shows the return of Paris to Medieval times.

“The recent remarks by the French Defense Minister [were] admission of the inefficiency of the unfair Western sanctions imposed against Iran and their (the French’s) return to medieval measures,” Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said on Sunday.

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Friday called on the US and European nations to take "decisive sanctions" against Iran over its nuclear energy program.

"Given the inflexibility of Iran's position, this dual, sanctions-dialogue approach should allow us to increase pressure on Iran in the coming months as the Iranian uranium enrichment program continues to expand in quantity and quality," Le Drian said.

Vahidi said such remarks show the “colonialist nature” of French leaders.

“On the other hand, with such remarks, they confessed that sanctions have so far been ineffective and futile and now they seek to impose effective sanctions,” the Iranian minister pointed out.

He advised French officials to seek ways to resolve the crises and problems currently faced by French people instead of making such hostile remarks.

Vahidi further emphasized that despite enemy pressures and threats, the Iranian nation will not abandon its absolute rights and would remain loyal to its principles and ideals.

The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Using the unfounded allegation as a pretext, the US and the EU have imposed illegal unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Tehran rejects the allegation over its nuclear energy activities, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
