During the meeting on Tuesday, Ali Akbar Salehi pointed to the sensitivity of the situation in the region, stressing on a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis. He also elaborated on Iran’s stance toward Palestine and the Syrian crisis.

He considered continuation of violence in Syria as perilous, which might have an impact on other countries, calling for aid to the political process of the Syrian crisis.

The Jordanian King Abdullah II, for his part, emphasized on the important position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region and the Muslim world. He also stressed on the necessity of collaboration of the two countries in regional and international issues, voicing hope that bilateral ties strengthen to serve the interests of both nations.

After his meeting with King Abdullah II, the Iranian Foreign Minister met with the Jordanian Prime Minister.

Also, Salehi and his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh in a meeting in Amman earlier on Tuesday discussed bilateral ties and regional developments, the Syrian crisis in particular.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

In October 2011, calm was almost restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies tried hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots to topple President Bashar al-Assad, who is well known in the world for his anti-Israeli stances.
