In an interview with Al-Alam on Saturday, Sheikh Mansour Mendour, a senior member of Al-Azhar University said the stance of Al-Azhar has been always clear and looks at all Muslims with respect while considering this fact that the Prophet's companions have special place in holy Quran.”
He said Al-Azhar condemns such disrespectful insult to the body of Hujr ibn Adi, a close companion of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), who has high and respectful positions among Muslims all over the world.
“Al-Azhar also opposes such measures and considers it forbidden, especially the great Hujr ibn Adi, Prophet's companions who had met the Prophet (PBUH) and his high, distinct place is known to all,” he continued.
Last Thursday, armed terrorists have reportedly attacked the mausoleum and exhumed the grave of Hujr ibn Adi in the Damascus suburb of Adra, and took his remains to an unknown location.
Al-Qaeda affiliated group of al-Nusra Front has claimed the responsibility of exhuming the grave.
The militant group also threatened that they will destroy more religious places across the Syria in upcoming days.
