Referring to the prison sentences issued recently for four Bahraini writers, Al Wefaq has decried the increasing limitations exerted on freedom of thought and speech in this kingdom.

The statement also highlighted the lack of press and media freedom in the country, saying that any freedom of speech will lead the activists to lose their jobs, relinquish their citizenship or nationality, or face with alleged charges of corruption.

“Dozens of journalists have lost their jobs only because of taking explicit stances which were facing with retaliatory initiative of Bahraini regime officials”.

According to the latest report released on Foreign Policy magazine, Bahrain is among ten countries which are most dangerous for the journalists.

According to the statement, the Bahraini government has a very close surveillance on media in such a way that there is only one TV channel dedicated to reflect the regime officials’ viewpoints.

The report added that many of the reporters or journalists from foreign countries are not allowed to enter the Kingdom to avoid reflection of opposition groups’ standpoints.

The report also noted that many Bahrani journalists were arrested and charged in connection with an alleged plot to overthrow the government.
