UK officer, known as Butcher of Bahrain, dies

Former Head of Bahrain Intelligence and Security Services, Ian Henderson dies at 86.

Henderson, who was a British citizen, had very key role in repression of Bahraini people in several events during the revolution of this Arab country.


Henderson, was also managing the security forces in Bahrain during many years as an adviser to the Bahraini regime.


Some journalists have referred to Henderson as the "Butcher of Bahrain" due to the torture and killing of political activists in Bahrain.


After uprising of Bahrain people in 1990, Henderson was deported from Kenya and moved to Bahrain. He was employed as the head of the General Directorate for State Security Investigations in Bahrain for some 30 years, retiring from his position in February 1998.


He has been accused of complicity in torture during the period of protracted social unrest that Bahrain experienced in the mid to late 1990's.
