A top Iranian military commander has warned that Tehran regularly monitors all the potential threats against the Islamic Republic in a bid to be prepared to take all necessary actions against its enemies.

“Constant monitoring of the terrestrial, aerial, and maritime threats as well as preparation for them are among the tasks of the Army,” Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan said on Thursday.

“All the threats at the borders, across the region and beyond the region are surveyed, and military experts analyze them and the required capacity will be created in the Army in proportion to them,” he added.

Securing Iran’s air space and its land borders, countering terrorist groups and international terrorism, establishing a powerful presence in international waters and fighting against drug trafficking are just part of the measures taken by Iran’s Army, Pourdastan said.

He also pointed to the Army’s extensive minesweeping operations in Iran’s western areas, adding that more than one million hectares of land has been so far cleared of mines in operations that have claimed the lives of 180 Army personnel and left some 300 injured.

Over the past few years, Iran has held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that Tehran’s military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
