Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned against heating up the North Korea crisis with military maneuvers.

The warning comes in the wake of annual joint military drills by Seoul and Washington, which Pyongyang views as rehearsals for war.

The U-S included the redeployment of its 23rd Chemical Battalion in the training, which the Pentagon says the move is to strengthen deterrence against North Korea’s missile and nuclear program as rhetoric grows increasingly hostile.

Lavrov told journalists on the sidelines of a meeting of G8 foreign ministers in London, "One just shouldn't scare anyone with military maneuvers and there's a chance that everything will calm down," he added in Russian.

Tensions rose in the region after the U-S flew its B-2 nuclear bomber over the peninsula during its joint military drill with South Korea. Pyongyang in response threatened to attack the U-S with pre-emptive nuclear attacks and enter a war with its southern neighbor.
