A British newspaper has documented rape and sexual abuse cases carried out by Saudi men against girls among Syrian refugees in Zaatari camp in Jordan.

Al Alam News Channel quoted the British newspaper, "Daily Telegraph" as saying that “Syrian girls, some of whom under maturity age, are subject to rape and assault by Saudi men”.

According to this report, sexual abuses against these girls were often implemented under the guise of marriage.

Quoting from a member of “Kitab al-Sunna” Charity, which is one of the most prominent charities in Jordan, the newspaper said that such “marriages” are not real and that they are never documented or recorded by a “Mullah” (clergy).

The Jordanian activist added that most “suitors” come to Jordan from Saudi Arabia as well as some other countries under the pretext of “marriage” with refugee women in camps.

The activist said these Saudi men rent houses for the new “wives” away from refugee camps, and provide for their living expenses; however, they divorce the women after just one week.

He emphasized that many of the Syrian girls underwent marriage based on the promise that they will be taken to Saudi Arabia and that their marriage will be recorded there, but the Saudi men abandoned them and changed their phone numbers.

The International Committee of Red Cross has recently announced in a report that “rape against women and girls” is the biggest concern in “Syria’s civil war”.

According to UN estimates, 500 Syrian girls under the age of maturity have been married ‘only this year’.

It should be mentioned that the other day the Syrian government asked Syrian refugees in neighbor countries to return to their own country and promised to provide all the living necessities for them.
