The preliminary results of the Iraqi provincial elections show that the coalition of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has taken the lead in eight provinces out of twelve where elections were held over the weekend, including the capital Baghdad.

Car bomb attacks kills 9 in Iraq

At least nine people have been killed and 27 others injured in two separate car bomb attacks in central Iraq, police officials say. The bombings came a day after a string of deadly attacks across Iraq killed 55 people.
