Volunteers aboard a Spanish humanitarian aid vessel rescued dozens of migrants from small dinghies off the Libyan coast on Thursday (August 18), including one boat that was sinking.
Migrants rescued at sea by the Italian Coast Guard arrived in the Sicilian port of Pozzallo on Friday.
Almost 3,500 migrants were rescued in 15 separate operations off the coast of Libya on Saturday, the Italian coast guard said.
Some 500 Syrian migrants are being escorted to the Italian shore after being spotted on a merchant ship at sea.
