(tasnim) -- In a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Tehran on Tuesday, the IRGC commander highlighted the benefits of organized popular forces in helping Iran’s Armed Forces.

Inspired by the formation of Iranian voluntary units during the imposed war of the 1980s, Iraq and Syria also mobilized popular forces and managed to defeat Takfiri terrorists, Major General Jafari said.

“We were informed that attempts are being made to create insecurity and spread it in Pakistan as well, while preventive measures by reliance on the popular forces in addition to the armed and security forces could block insecurity in this country,” the IRGC chief said.

He also voiced Iran’s readiness to offer its experience of forty years of defense, popular resistance and dealing with hostile threats to neighboring Pakistan.

The Pakistani general, for his part, described popular support as the major factor behind Iran’s success in countering its enemies, expressing the hope that Islamabad would begin to use the Iranian experience of ‘Basij’ and tap into the popular forces.

Pakistan is willing to broaden cooperation and ties with Iran, General Bajwa added.

The top Pakistani commander arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening for an official visit. He has had meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami.
