(IRNA) -- Upon his arrival in Ankara, he said that D8 Summit has been formed for boosting economic cooperation among eight Islamic countries, noting that the event will open in Istanbul on Friday.

 

Fortunately, there are good prospects for collaboration among the eight countries, as they have set a target to raise their exchanges to $500 billion, he said.

 

Jahangiri also said that he will sit down with Turkish officials to discuss bilateral issues. 

 

Describing Iran and Turkey as the two major and influential countries in the region, he said that the region is currently experiencing sensitive situation and that’s for the same reason that Iran-Turkey cooperation can lead the region out of the challenges facing it.

 

Iran and Turkey have excellent political ties, he said, adding that the two countries have started good economic cooperation, as during Turkish president’s visit to Tehran and meeting with President Rouhani, they agreed on a huge target of promoting trade exchanges to $30 billion. 

 

Jahandgiri further noted that there some obstacles in the way of bolstering trade exchanges which are to be dealt with during talks tomorrow (Oct 19).

 

First vice president hoped that the trip will play a crucial role in developing bilateral ties.

 

He is scheduled to confer with Prime Minister Binali Yildrim on Thursday.

 

Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari and Governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valliollah Seif are among the senior officials accompanying Jahangiri during his trip.
