(Tasnim) -- Iran is on top of the countries that have helped Iraq in the battle against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), Jaafari said in a meeting with Iraj Masjedi, Iran’s new ambassador to the Arab country, according to al-Forat news agency.
He thanked the Islamic Republic for its stances, humanitarian assistance and security support for Iraq in the fight against the terrorist group.
Jaafari also underlined Baghdad’s resolve to forge good ties with neighboring countries and restoring security and stability to the region and called for more efforts to enhance collaborations between Iran and Iraq in all fields.
Masjedi for his part, voiced Iran’s willingness to promote its ties with Iraq, and said he would do his best during his term to boost bilateral cooperation between th two neighboring countries.
Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh terrorist group.
Daesh militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces blunted the edge of Daesh offensive and later forced the Takfiri group to withdraw from most of the areas it had occupied.
Iran, meanwhile, is known as the first country to help Iraq in the face of terrorism and has always voiced support for Iraq’s solidarity and prosperity
