The top Turkish diplomat met with the Iranian chief executive on Saturday shortly after he arrived in the Iranian capital.
He will next meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Iran and Turkey hold regular diplomatic consultations in order to address regional issues, notably the crises in Syria and Iraq.
While differing on Syria, Ankara and Tehran are both concerned by the threat of terrorism in the Arab countries.
Iran was supportive of Turkey’s elected government during and after a failed coup against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in July.
Earlier in the month, Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri met with Turkish Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci in Tehran.
Jahangiri said the two sides may have different views on some issues in the Middle East but the differences of opinion would never lead to a halt in Tehran’s support for Ankara in the face of regional threats and instability.
