"The Iraqi army and counterterrorism department declared that they have won back Karkoukli district in Eastern Mosul," the Arabic-language al-Baghdadiyeh television channel quoted senior Iraqi commander Major General Abdel Amir Rashid Yarallah as saying on Sunday.
"The next step for Iraq's joint military forces will be imposing full control over al-Bakr and Adan districts," the Iraqi General added.
Earlier on Sunday, Iraq's joint military forces managed to seize back the ancient city of Nimrud 30 kilometers to the South of the city of Mosul.
"The Iraqi army's Ninth Armored Division inflicted heavy losses on the ISIS terrorists after taking full control of Nimrud ancient city and its surrounding areas," Major General Yarallah said.
Iraq's joint military forces are now in full control of the ancient city.
Earlier on Sunday, the Iraqi forces seized back the Village of al-Namanieh to the South of Mosul city.
On April 12, 2015, the ISIL massively destroyed the archeological works of Nimrud city while showing the footage of its destructions on satellite TV networks.
Nimrud is the Arabic and Aramaic name for an ancient Assyrian city, located 30 kilometers South of the city of Mosul and 5 kilometers South of the village of Salamiyah, FNA reported.
