Admiral Grigorovich armed with Kalibr cruise missiles had left the port of Sevastopol on November 3 to join the aircraft carrier group in Syria.
Russia's Northern Fleet's press service said in Mid-October that a group of warships headed by the Admiral Kuznetsov accompanied by the Pyotr Veliky battle cruiser, the Severomorsk and Vice-Admiral Kulakov anti-submarine destroyer and support vessels had been sent to the Mediterranean to hold drills and strengthen capabilities; FNA reported.
Sources in the Russian Defense Ministry also disclosed on November 8 that the country's aircraft carrier group is ready to launch a strike targeting terrorists in the province of Aleppo.
The source told Russia's Gazeta that the attack, which will likely engage Kalibr cruise missiles, will target militants outside Aleppo, and not the residential areas.
According to the source, the group, which includes Russia's 'Admiral Kuznetsov' aircraft carrier, Pyotr Veliky nuclear power guided missile cruiser and two destroyers, has completed its transfer to the Mediterranean Sea and is getting ready to strike.
"The group's main goal is to carry out missile strikes on terrorists outside of Aleppo that are attempting to get into the city", the source said, adding that "Kalibr cruise missiles will be used in the strikes, but did not specify from which ships the missiles will be launched".
Another source in Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that the Russian military personnel in Syria is almost through with locating the terrorist groups and their training centers, arms depots and supply routes, and Moscow would resume heavy airstrikes on militants in Aleppo in coming days.
Gazeta news website reported that the Russian army has deployed a large number of reconnaissance systems in Syria to this end.
Another military source said that the terrorists have misused the ceasefire in Aleppo to recruit and bring in more reinforcements from different parts of the country for a new attack to enter the Eastern parts of Aleppo.
The source, meantime, added that Russia plans to launch massive air campaign on the terrorists to deter other militants who plan to join their comrades in the Eastern parts of Aleppo city.
He added that the missile attacks that the Russian ships launched last year from the Caspian Sea destroyed tens of terrorists' targets, "but this time the strikes are to smash hundreds of bases and positions in the outskirts of Aleppo in a 48 to 72 hour period".
Yet, the source said no missile attack would be launched on any specific district inside Aleppo city in a bid to prevent casualties among the civilian population that are used by the terrorists as human shields.
A Russian military and diplomatic source disclosed on Saturday that the country's fighter jets on 'Admiral Kuznetsov' aircraft carrier and the country's navy fleet will soon launch strikes on terrorists in Aleppo in Northern Syria.
"Russian warplanes, on board the Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, will soon hit the positions and gatherings of the terrorist groups in Aleppo," the source said.
"Mig 29 and Sukhoi 33 fighter jets have taken off Admiral Kuznetsov' aircraft carrier in recent days and have carried out reconnaissance operations over Syria," the source added.
"Mig 29 and Sukhoi 33 fighter jets' reconnaissance flights were aimed at identifying the new positions of the terrorists and preparing a list of terrorist targets to hand over to the navy fleet (a cruiser and destroyer),"the sources went on to say.
"The Russian fleet, including Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, 'Pyotr Veliky' nuclear power guided missile cruiser and Admiral Gregorowich destroyer are ready for military operation," the source underlined.
Over the recent months, Aleppo has been a battlefield between government forces and numerous terrorist groups.
