One person has been killed and several others wounded as an armed group seized the headquarters of the police and interior troops in Yerevan, Armenia, local media reported.
The broadcaster that first reported the news hasn’t identified the victims of the attack, but other media outlets stated later that the local police chief, Valery Osipyan, is being held hostage.
The group demanded to release an arrested participant of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, who is accused of illegal purchase and possession of weapons.
According to a statement by the Armenian National Secutiry Service, "people on the territory of the [police] regiment were taken hostage."
People living nearby have been evacuated. According to unconfirmed reports, shots were heard in the building of the police station.
The statement added that social media rumors that the situation is linked to a start of an unprising are false, RT reported.
