The Japanese weather center ministry announced that in some areas, such as in the northernmost province of Hokkaido, the snow was up to 80 centimeters (31 inches) deep in some places.
The city of Nagoya reported that 9 centimeters (3.5 inches) had fallen overnight with 13 accidents occurring as a result.
Japanese media reported that more than 200 traffic accidents were caused across the country because of the large snow falls, AP reported.
