The militant groups’ defense lines in Eastern and Western Ghouta were massively attacked by the Syrian army, popular forces and the country’s fighter jets, the army said Saturday, adding the attacks inflicted major losses on the terrorists.
"The Syrian pro-government forces engaged in heavy battle with the militant groups in Marj region and al-Bilaliyah town in Eastern Ghouta, which ended in the killing or wounding of several terrorists," the army said.
"Positions of Jeish al-Islam terrorist group in al-Midani village in Eastern Ghouta were bombed by the Syrian fighter jets, leaving major damage on the terrorists' military hardware," the army added.
"The Syrian Army's artillery units also shelled the militant groups' centers in Douma and its nearby farms, Irbin and Ein Tarma in Eastern Ghouta, which left many militants dead or wounded," the army went on to say.
"The Syrian warplane, meanwhile, bombed the militant groups' defense lines and trenches near Douma and Marj region in Eastern Ghouta, and Darayya, Deir al-Asafir, al-Shifouniyeh farms, Khan Shieh farms in Western Ghouta, which claimed the lives of many terrorists and destroyed their trenches," the army added.
Sources said on Friday that the Syrian fighter jets carried out several combat flights over the militant groups' gathering centers in Eastern Ghouta and targeted them heavily.
"Concentration centers of the militant groups in Douma were tracked and targeted by the Syrian bombers, which ended in the killing and wounding of many terrorists," the army said.
"The heavy bombardments inflicted major damage on the militants' military vehicles and equipment too," the army added; FNA reported.
