“Iran and China share common stances and it is planned that we promote our defense ties just like our economic ties,” Major General Mohammad Baqeri said on Wednesday after his meeting with the deputy chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army of China.
Iran and China have a common position towards the US unilateralism and are seeking to form “an Asian structure” and develop the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), he added.
The necessity to fight against terrorism in Syria and Iraq is among our shared policies in the international arena, Major General Baqeri, who is the deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, noted.
The Chinese official and his accompanying delegation on Wednesday also met with Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.
Back in April, China's Minister of National Defense Chang Wanquan hailed the idea of a joint meeting with Iran and Russia to coordinate efforts in countering common threats.
In a meeting with Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan in Moscow on April 17, Wanquan welcomed the idea of the trilateral meeting proposed by Iran, and said, "The world's current circumstances necessitate the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral defensive and military cooperation."
He also praised the history of good defense ties between Tehran and Beijing; Tasnimnews Agency reported.
