Speaking at the 14th Ambassadors’ Conference in Berlin on Monday, Steinmeier said he will head to Tehran in October for political talks following what he called the 'historic' Vienna nuclear accord, IRNA reported.

Steinmeier's planned trip comes in the wake of the July 19 landmark visit by German Vice Chancellor and Economic Minister Sigmar Gabriel, only five days after the Iran nuclear accord was sealed in the Austrian capital.

Germany's top diplomat reiterated that the Iranian nuclear deal could provide "a momentum" for resolving other conflicts in the Middle East, including Syria.

Steinmeier insisted the Vienna accord had actually fostered greater security in the Middle East.

The agreement has proven that deep-seeded, complex conflicts which are shadowed by mistrust and even animosity, can be settled peacefully, Steinmeier said.

Under the motto "Improving foreign policy", more than 200 heads of German missions abroad, representatives of foreign embassies as well as from politics, the economic and the cultural sectors have come together in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.

The 14th Ambassadors’ Conference kicked off on August 24 in Berlin and will last until 27 August 2015.

On the four conference days there will be more than 50 individual events offering the chance to discuss German foreign policy.
