Republican presidential candidates and GOP leaders in Congress have opposed the talks for months. With some threatening to derail the agreement in Congress, Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) recently brokered a deal with the top Democrat on his panel to give Congress a say without dismantling the pact completely.

The Journal poll of 1,000 American adults was conducted April 26-30 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The broader question about whether Americans think there should be a framework in place to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons was only asked of half of the respondents and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.36 percentage points.
