Saudi Arabia has launched air strikes in Yemen in a coalition with Persian Gulf region allies. The military action is in response to an advance by Shiite Houthi who have fighting Al-Qaeda and corruption in former government.
On Wednesday the Ansarullah seized an airbase and Aden’s international airport as they tightened their control on the city.
Former President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has recently called on his allies for help. Up to ten countries appear to be participating including the US with logistical and intelligence support.
According to media Saudi Arabia is contributing 100 warplanes and 150,000 soldiers to the military operation. planes from Jordan, Sudan, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain are also taking part, and Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan and Sudan are also said to be ready to participate.
Saudi Arabia led attack leaves much damage, many dead and wounded people. Iran said "many Yemeni citizens were killed in the U.S.-backed aggressions in Yemen", Reuters reports.
At least 13 civilians were killed in Saudi air strikes against Ansarullah in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, a civil defence source said today.
"Thirteen civilians, including women and children, were killed in the Saudi raids overnight," the source told AFP. Witnesses said residents were helping civil defense officials to search for any more victims under the rubble of seven houses damaged in the raids.
The homes are located in a neighborhood adjacent to the international airport and an air base targeted in the raids, said local residents.
Military sources said the raids had hit various locations in Sanaa, including at al-Daylami airbase and the adjacent international airport in the north of the city, as well as the presidential complex seized by the Houthis in January.
