The timely presence and action of the Iranian Navy's 32nd Flotilla thwarted the first attack by pirate speed boats, equipped with various weapons, on an Iranian oil tanker in the waters of the Gulf of Aden, and forced the pirates to flee the scene two days ago.
The pirates came back with 14 speed boats and semi-heavy and more advanced weapons to attack the Iranian oil tanker but they fled the scene after the Iranian Navy's 32nd flotilla of warships approached the oil tanker.
A day after the first attack, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that the Navy warships deployed in the international waters had rescued an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden from pirates' attacks.
"The swift action of the Iranian Navy forces repeled an attack by a pirate ferry and a speed boat on an Iranian oil tanker in the entrance of the Gulf of Aden, and forced the pirates to flee the scene with heavy casualties," he added.
Commander of the Iranian Navy's 32nd flotilla of warships Captain Seyed Hossein Sharifinasab announced earlier this month that the country's naval forces deployed in the high seas have escorted 1,745 Iranian cargo ships and oil tankers so far.
