A senior Iranian military official has attributed the massive participation of Iranians in the annual march marking the anniversary of Islamic Revolution’s victory to “the foolish rhetoric” of US officials.

“The utterance of foolish words by some US authorities inspired our people, and their exhilarating presence in the (Tuesday) march strengthened nations that are our friends,” said Military consultant to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi on Wednesday.

“Disappointment of the US and the Zionist regime (Israel) was among the outcomes of such thrilling show of force,” he added.

Safavi further added that the 22 Bahman (February 11) march served as a clear message concerning the US-led sanctions against Iran as well as the foolish rhetoric and the (military) options mentioned by the Americans, reiterating that “raising such options is more like a joke.”

The Iranian general also described the massive march as “the biggest backing” for the country’s negotiating team in the Geneva talks with six world powers over Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Referring to Iran’s military as the “most powerful in West Asia,” the top military consultant to the Leader declared that the nation’s armed forces “do not need foreign arms” since “we have our own domestic products.”

Pointing to the Islamic Republic’s missile forces, General Safavi said, “Our missile capabilities are aimed at defending the nation, our interests and our principles… of course our missiles have limited range since our policy is not an aggressive one, rather it is based on defense.”

On the reasons of Iranian distrust towards the US, the senior military official emphasized that the Americans approve budgets for Iranian anti-revolutionaries, support internal seditionists and their media outlets are constantly active against the Islamic revolution.

“One of the ignorant US senators even threatened Iran with atomic weapons,” he added, describing the move as “reflective of their blunder.”

Safavi further said another reason for Iranian distrust of Washington is that Americans “practically demonstrated” in Syria that they support terrorists and provided them with arms.
