Addressing thousands of the supporters of the ousted Egyptian president at a protest camp in Cairo on Thursday, Naglaa Mahmoud delivered what she described as “good news,” saying Egypt “is Islamic.”

“We are victorious,” Mahmoud told the crowd, saying protesters would overcome.

Mahmoud made her first appearance since July 3 when the army ousted the former president following rallies demanding the ouster of Morsi.

Morsi is being held incommunicado since then.

The protest camp is the site of one of two sit-ins by Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group and its allies. Protesters demand Morsi's reinstatement.

The interim government has vowed to clear the sit-ins after two weeks of foreign diplomatic efforts to peacefully resolve the standoff have failed.
