The troops arrested one of the Islamic Action Society leaders, Hisham al-Sabbagh on Friday morning following an early raid on his home.
Hisham al-Sabbagh is the spokesperson for the opposition party, Islamic Action Society (Amal).
The arrest comes as anti-regime protests continue across the tiny Persian Gulf island nation in support of political prisoners and demanding removal of Al-Khalifa regime.
In the northern city of Jidhafs, protesters urged Al-Khalifa regime to send Saudi Arabian occupying troops to their home. Saudi troops have been involved in the regime’s violent crackdowns on pro-democracy demonstrations.
In the island city of Sitra, a protest gathering was held under the motto of “arresting women is a crime”. They urged the regime to release women prisoners.
In Bilad al-Qadeem area, demonstrators came to streets in support of prisoners, holding flags that read “you are in our minds” and condemned Al-Khalifa regime’s “crimes against the defenseless people” of the country.
Bahrainis have been holding peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations continuously since mid-February 2011, demanding political reform and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al-Khalifa family regime following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.
