(dailymail) -- Pele signed autographs and memorabilia for a number of fans on arrival in New York.

The 76-year-old was last week spotted at the GQ Awards at London's Tate Modern standing between heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and actor Idris Elba.

It is nearly a year since the 76-year-old started using a metal-framed walker to get about.

His agent, Jose Fornos, said at the time that the three-time World Cup winner was calling his walker 'his new soccer shoes with wheels'.

Fornos added that Pele had used a walker or a cane since he had hip surgery in 2015.

The surgery helped correct the displacement of part of a right hip prosthesis, which was completed in 2012.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner also required another operation in 2015 for what was said to be 'nerve root decompression'.
