Iraqi troops continued a slow advance through eastern Mosul on Saturday as the Islamic State terror group (ISIS) continued to put up stiff fighting.

Local television pictures showed troop activity and armored vehicles in the city's eastern Al-Zohour and Aden neighbourhoods.

Iraqi forces have been waging a massive offensive since mid-October to retake Mosul, Iraq's second-largest, from the Daesh militants, AP reports.

Iraqi forces have retaken around a quarter of the Mosul since the offensive began.
